So we're off for another cycle tour, this time to Hokkaido. We've been steadily getting ready over the last month - buying gear, packing, re-packing, agonizing over what to take. After our experiences on the last trip to Malaysia, we're being pretty ruthless with our kit and trying to cut any unnecessary weight. Extra weight makes for longer hill climbs, after all.
We spent the last few days packing the bikes into boxes and double checking our panniers, and this morning I picked up the rent-a-car. It'd take fairly bad treatment to damage our bicycles... or handling by this guy.
Tonight we're off to Sydney at 1:00 in the morning... can't wait for that drive! I have an inkling we'll spend all evening chatting, get hardly any sleep, and be stuffed by tomorrow morning. If we can keep the kids awake during the drive (highly unlikely), at least they'll sleep on the plane!
We haven't organised SIM cards for the trip yet, we're hoping to pick them up at the airport. Failing that, it could be up to a week before we're online again and able to blog - so stay tuned.
