Shifting from Kuchan to Niseko town was a pleasant day ride that took us around the base of the mountains. It was a hot day, but we took our time as the distance was pretty short and the kids were relaxed in the chariot. Highlights included the deep forest with towering mountain views in the background, a blue butterfly we found on the side of the road (best roadkill of the trip!), extremely courteous drivers who risked disaster with oncoming traffic to give us space when they passed, some champion efforts on what few hills we encountered, and an all together pleasant ride.
Niseko itself was smaller than we had imagined, but very pretty. It won the attractive family campsite competition in our opinion, with heaps of space, lots of spots for cubby building, and decent facilities. We spent the afternoon lounging on the grass in the shade while the kids amused themselves; the open space and ensuing imaginative play made for a nice break.
We even bought some rockets from seven eleven and launched them skywards when it got dark - smiles all round!

Good to hear from you today. It looks like a good ride to Niseko and that beautiful blue butterfly is gorgeous. Amazing moon in the indigo sky! Hope you had a goon night there. Love to all - Mum
ReplyDeleteIt has been only 3 weeks since you left our house, how amazing Finn doesn't have a baby face, but a young boy.
ReplyDeleteWe envy you for your experience touring in Hookaido. even though we have lived here more than 25 years, there are many places we haven't been yet.
If you want to see Asahiyama zoo, come back to Asahikawa. If you have a railpass, you can ride train to anywhere in Japan, right?
Enjoy your rest of the trip.
